What you will learn

  • Purity (Taharah)Wudu, Ghusl and getting ready to pray
  • Prayer (Salah)The five prayers, step by step
  • Fasting (Sawm)How to fast in Ramadan
  • ZakahThe charity every Muslim owes
  • HajjThe journey to Makkah, in outline

Where it comes from

Built on trusted books, not opinions

Every lesson is taken from three books written by scholars for ordinary Muslims, each ruling with its evidence from the Qur'an and the Sunnah. All three are published by the King Fahd Complex in Madinah, whose books pass through review committees before they are printed.

  • Belief

    Usul al-Iman

The Foundations of Faith in the Light of the Qur'an and the Sunnah

By Dr Salih al‑Suhaymi, Dr 'Abd al‑Razzaq al‑Badr and Dr Ibrahim al‑Ruhayli.

Reviewed and worded by two more scholars.

  • Purity to Hajj

    al-Fiqh al-Muyassar

Fiqh Made Easy in the Light of the Qur'an and the Sunnah

By four professors of fiqh: Prof. Dr 'Abd al‑'Aziz al‑Ahmadi, Prof. Dr Fayhan al‑Mutayri, Prof. Dr 'Abd al‑Karim al‑'Umari and Prof. Dr 'Abdullah al‑Sharif.

Then reviewed by a committee of specialists.

  • The words of prayer

    al-Dhikr wa-d-Du'a

Remembrance and Supplication in the Light of the Qur'an and the Sunnah

By Shaykh Dr 'Abd al‑Razzaq al‑Badr.

Only what is authentically reported from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).

How it works

Four short levels, one step at a time

Each lesson is a short video, a short reading and a few easy questions. Finish a level, take a short check, and the next level opens.

  1. Four short levels

Start with how to pray. Each level opens the next, one step at a time.

  2. Short lessons

A short video, a short reading and a few easy questions. Most take under ten minutes.

  3. A teacher hears you

Record the words of the prayer and a teacher replies with kind help.

  4. A certificate at the end

Finish the four levels and the College gives you a certificate of completion.

  1. Level 1

    First steps

Pray all five prayers on your own.

  2. Level 2

    Growing in faith and prayer

Pray with confidence and know what undoes faith.

  3. Level 3

    The unseen, Ramadan and Zakah

Fast Ramadan and know what you owe in Zakah.

  4. Level 4

Hajj, and living as a Muslim

Know what Hajj and Umrah are and live Islam day to day.

The checks have no timer, and you can try again as many times as you like.

You are not on your own

A real teacher, and a certificate at the end

A teacher hears you

Record al-Fatihah and the words of the prayer on your phone and send them to a teacher. They listen and reply with kind help on any words to practise. You can ask a teacher a question from any lesson, too.

A sample certificate of completion from the International Islamic College, with its own number to check.

A certificate when you finish

Pass the four level checks and have your recitations approved, and the College gives you a certificate of completion. It is the College's own certificate, not a formal qualification.

To get your certificate, you show us a photo ID and proof of address. We delete them 30 days after checking.

Each certificate has its own number. Anyone can check it at theiic.uk/verify.

Good to know

Questions people ask

  • Is it really free?

Yes. The course is free from start to finish. We never ask for card details, and there is nothing to buy.

  • Who is it for?

Adults (18 or over) who have become Muslim, or who want to start practising from the beginning. You do not need to know anything before you start.

  • Do I need to read Arabic?

No. Everything is in plain English. When you need to say words in Arabic, as in the prayer, we show you how to say them in English letters, tell you what they mean, and play them for you to copy.

  • How long does it take?

Most lessons take under ten minutes. Go at your own pace: one lesson a day is plenty. Your place is always saved.

  • Will anyone know I am learning?

Your account is private. Our emails come from the International Islamic College and their subject lines never mention religion. Only your teachers and the course team hear your recordings.

  • What if I get stuck?

Ask a teacher from any lesson. A teacher answers every week. Every check can be tried again as many times as you like.
